Leeds ‘definitely interested' in signing £8m star at Elland Road
Leeds United are ‘definitely interested’ in signing FC Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto at Elland Road, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.
Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy transfer window in West Yorkshire but still has time to add to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.
After Patrick Bamford picked up an injury against Southampton, the Leeds boss once again admitted that the club were looking to sign a striker before the end of the window.
Italy international Gnonto is one of the names linked with a move to the club this summer and it is understood a £3.4 million bid has already been rejected for his services.
According to 90Min, Leeds are hoping to secure a deal in the region of £4 million, with the 18-year-old entering the final year of his contract.
However, reports in Italy have suggested that the Swiss side are holding out for just over £8 million.
But a boost has come the way of the Whites with Gnonto agreeing to personal terms over a move to Elland Road, according to Football Insider.
Thornton understands that Leeds are definitely interested in signing Gnonto, although he adds that it could be a deal for future windows too.
He also adds that ensuring the progress of academy graduate Joe Gelhardt is not hampered by a new arrival is something the club have to bear in mind.
Thornton told GIVEMESPORT: “He might be one that they’ve identified for now, or maybe for January, or even for next year. He’s still a young player and, again, if he were to come in, what does that do for Joe Gelhardt? They’ve got to balance that out as well. So I think he’s one they’re definitely interested in.”
