Leeds 'considering' move for £20m 'wonderful talent' at Elland Road

Leeds are “considering” a move for Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch has welcomed seven new players on board since the market opened for business, but the Elland Road outfit are yet to sign a frontman.

Leeds have replaced Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha with the likes of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra, with three of those four featuring in their opening day victory over Wolves last weekend.

But the Yorkshire giants have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign a striker to provide competition and cover for Patrick Bamford, who suffered with injury problems last term.

That could soon change, with The Sun reporting that Leeds could join the race to sign for Brereton Diaz, who’s set to cost around £20m with less than 12 months remaining on his Blackburn contract.

The report claims that Spanish giants Sevilla are also in the running and could be joined by Everton and Bournemouth.

When asked for an update on Leeds’ striker search, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s a few backup options for them, Brereton Diaz is one of them and he’s one they’re considering.”

The Chile international, described as a ‘wonderful talent‘ by Tony Mowbray, might have a lack of Premier League experience, but he was one of the standout players in the Championship last season.

In 36 second-tier games, Brereton Diaz registered 21 goals and three assists, and was behind only Dominic Solanke and Aleksander Mitrovic in the goalscoring charts.

Despite Brereton Diaz’s exceptional form, that was his first proper campaign as a regular striker, compared to previous seasons when he’s generally been used out wide.
