Leeds' chances of keeping £36m ace at Elland Road are 'slim'

The chances of Leeds keeping Kalvin Phillips at Elland Road beyond this summer are “slim”, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old is yet to sign a new contract despite talks earlier this season and has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are the latest teams to register an interest in signing Phillips.

They join West Ham, who saw a big-money offer for the midfielder turned down in the January transfer window.

The same report states that Liverpool and Manchester United are also admirers of the player but have other priorities.

All of this interest comes despite Phillips missing a massive part of the season due to injury, with the Englishman clearly having done enough last term and in the Euros to appeal to Leeds’ Premier League rivals.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that everything is pointing towards Phillips heading to the Elland Road exit door.

Speaking to GMS about the £36m-rated England international, the insider said: “The chances are still slim that he decides to stay.”

Jesse Marsch’s men obviously need to stay up, which is far from a certainty right now. They are currently caught up in a relegation battle that is extremely competitive to say the least.

Even if Leeds do manage to retain their Premier League status, though, it is hard to imagine Phillips remaining at Elland Road if the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United come knocking.
