Leeds and Newcastle United’s chances of signing Birmingham City player become clearer

Championship outfit Birmingham City have no plans to sell teen starlet George Hall this summer as Premier League clubs plan to make their move, according to BirminghamLive.

Leeds United and Newcastle United are reportedly looking at the 17-year-old this summer, along with Brighton & Hove Albion according to the Daily Mail, but it was believed to be Jesse Marsch’s side that were in pole position for his signature, having already poached Amari Miller last summer from St. Andrew’s.

However, the Blues’ stance could scupper a potential top flight switch for Hall, who turns 18 years old next month.

The attacking midfielder signed his first professional contract with the club in November, and subsequently made his professional debut for the club less than two months later when starting against Queens Park Rangers alongside Troy Deeney.

Hall had to wait a while longer for his second appearance of the season, coming off the bench against Blackburn Rovers in the final game of the 2021-22 campaign – it is for Birmingham’s under-23’s where he has been seen more frequently, scoring three times in 11 appearances in the Premier League 2.

Birmingham want to keep Hall around as he’s seen as a top young talent, and it appears that they will resist all offers from the top flight – unless they are significant.

The Verdict

Hall is contracted until the summer of 2024 at Birmingham, so the club have no chance of losing him on the cheap this summer.

It may all depend on the ownership situation though and whether whoever is in charge is going to give Lee Bowyer the necessary funds to spend.
