Lee Ryder drops major Newcastle injury boost on Twitter regarding 'superb' star before Chelsea

Newcastle United star Joelinton is with the squad ahead of the trip to Chelsea, Lee Ryder reports.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in recent months and missed his first Premier League game under Eddie Howe on Thursday evening.

Joelinton missed out due to injury, with January signing Bruno Guimaraes taking his place for his first Magpies start. Guimaraes scored the winner in a 2-1 victory at St Mary’s, with Newcastle still yet to lose in the top flight in 2022.

Prior to the win over Southampton, Ryder provided an update on Joelinton, who was labelled as ‘superb’ by Alan Shearer.

He took to Twitter to reveal that the attacking midfielder is with the squad who are staying down for the trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Sunday.

“A knock for Joelinton. He’s in the squad that are staying down here for Chelsea.”

If his injury was serious, it would have made sense for him to stay up north and receive treatment, so you’d expect that Joelinton has a chance of featuring on Sunday afternoon due to the fact he has travelled with the squad, which would be a major boost for Howe.

He has played a key role in Newcastle’s fine form in 2022, and hopefully, he can play a part, even if from the bench, against Chelsea as the Magpies aim to stretch their unbeaten league run to ten games.

In other news: Staveley now actively working on free transfer deal for Howe; target shares same agent as Fraser.
