Lee Johnson on Hibs brink as Jamie McAllister set to join new boss at Easter Road

Hibernian are poised to appoint Lee Johnson as their new boss as the club tie up details over his backroom staff.

Owner Ron Gordon and the Easter Road board expect the 40-year-old to arrive in Scotland over the next 24 hours to finalise the move.

The former Sunderland and Bristol City boss will be named as Shaun Maloney’s successor.

Record Sport revealed last week that Johnson was the favoured candidate and had agreed terms with Hibs.

The capital club had also been in talks with Jon Dahl Tomasson.

The former Danish international and Malmo boss had the backing of large sections of the Hibs support.

Both names were put to the board before it was decided to move forward with Johnson.

Johnson, who had a spell at Hearts and Kilmarnock as a player, will want to bring in his long-term No. 2 Jamie McAllister while there will also be place for current first-team coach David Gray, who was caretaker boss until the end of the season, in the new set-up.

Johnson has been out of football since he left Sunderland at the end of January, despite delivering the Papa John’s trophy last year.

He has also managed at Oldham Athletic and Barnsley and is seen as an attacking-style coach.
