Lee Bowyer fires message to Birmingham City owners amid uncertain future

Lee Bowyer has called on Birmingham City's owners to lay the foundations to really kick on next season. The manager's future remains uncertain with Blues winning just one match from their last eight Championship fixtures.

Bowyer, 45, outlined how he was "no quitter" following Blues ' 6-1 hammering at Blackpool while, last week, the manager steadied the ship with a more determined showing in the 2-2 draw with Millwall.

It's been a rocky season on and off the pitch at St Andrew's and, when asked if Blues can be successful under the current ownership, Bowyer said: "I hope we can be successful. That's what I want. That's why I'm here. That's why I came here because I want to help this club move forward. I did it at my last club and I want to do it here. It's a club I care about and I want to see the right things happen. I want to be part of it - if it does move forward."

The manager takes his Blues to Cardiff on Saturday for the club's final away game of what's been a season to forget. Bowyer's men have won just four of their 22 away games (D7 L11) this term against Sheffield United, Luton, Middlesbrough and, most recently, Bristol City.

On what's been missing on the road, Bowyer added: "Players, half the time! We haven't had a strong enough squad. When we get three or four injuries it really hurts so that's been our biggest problem.

"At Bournemouth we had a little bit of a pick 'n' mix of a back four and we still pushed them to the limit and still deserved something out of the game. It was a crazy end to the game and we couldn't get that equaliser and they hit us on the break and got a third. It's not through a lack of effort from the players.
