Lawrence Shankland howler sparks Scotland pundit meltdown as Alan Hutton reveals unseen studio reaction

The pundits were left 'screaming' for Lawrence Shankland to score in the Viaplay Sports studio - but neither Alan Hutton or Robert Snodgrass were ready to hold it against him.

With Euro 2024 just around the corner the Tartan Army watched on as the Dutch racked up the goals to make it six games without a win for Scotland. The hosts took the lead in Amsterdam against the run of play just before the break as a stunning Tijjani Reijnders strike beat Angus Gunn.

Scotland passed up a host of chances in the second half with Hearts star Shankland missing a brilliant chance before Ronald Koeman's men moved up a gear. Georginio Wijnaldum headed into the net before Wout Weghorst and Donyell Malen came off the bench to get in on the action at the Johan Cruyff Arena. And while that four-goal capitulation was a major concern, the big frustration was Scotland's failure to take their own big chances.

It all goes back to that Shankland miss and Hutton reckons he had every reason to be 'annoyed' with himself. And he admits the studio were SCREAMING for him to score before he rattled Mark Flekken's bar on 62 minutes.

He said: "I think he has just tried to be too precise. His confidence is sky high so why not? He is a guy in form and more chances will come. Will he be annoyed? Of course he will be, but it's one of those things. He is more than capable. We were screaming in here for him to score, we wanted him to. But more will come."

Asked about his personality, Snodgrass added: "That is why he is a top number nine and has went on to score the goals here has done over the last two years.
