Lawrence Shankland chasing triple Hearts target as Robbo sends heir to his throne a half century text

Lawrence Shankland is driven by a triple target as he keeps scaling landmarks at Hearts.

The on-fire attacker scored his 50th goal for the club to seal a midweek win over St Johnstone and has more aims in sight. Shankland has his eyes on breaking the 30-goal barrier this term. At the same time, he hopes a juicy total will see him land the honour of Premiership top scorer after missing out last term. And, not least, Shankland knows retaining hot shows are crucial as he fights to land a place in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for Euro 2024.

The striker is in blistering form with yet another text from Hearts goalscoring legend John Robertson winging its way to his phone after the McDiarmid Park winner. Shankland is onto 23 for the season for club and country and, asked if he had 30 in his sights, he said: “Aye, because it’s doable once you get to this stage.

“I’ve always been the type who thinks about getting one more and then one more, because if you do that they all add up. So I’ll just keep doing that and see where we are at the end of the season.”

Kyogo Furuhashi and Kevin van Veen finished ahead of Shankland in last season’s chase to be top-gun in the top-flight, but he continued: “Do I want to be top scorer? Of course. Last season I had a run, but didn’t make it.

“So where I am this year, obviously I would love to keep going and make it. Bojan Miovski is doing well at Aberdeen and scoring goals and I’d imagine Kyogo will hit a bit of form as well. There are a lot of good strikers in this league, so you can’t get too caught up in it. I’ll just keep plodding away.”
