Law and District Athletics club continue strong 2022 with medal haul

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club’s strong start to 2022 continued last week with medal-winning displays at home and further afield.

Youngsters took home prizes from the Under-17 and Senior Indoor National Championships in Glasgow, while there was also success in the British Cross Challenge in Belfast,

First up, were the Indoor Nationals held on Saturday, January 22 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, with athletes competing in the 60m, 200m and shot put events.

U17 girls Ruth Hynd, Emma Gilchrist and Susannah Kay all qualified for the semi final of the 60m and U17 Ross Duffin went on to the final, finishing in sixth place in a time of 7.51 seconds.

Ross then competed in the 200m and had a fabulous performance in the final, achieving the bronze medal in a new personal best time of 23.04s.

U17 Jade Gray continued her good form in the shot put and threw over 13m for the first time to take the silver medal with an impressive throw of 13.37m.

On the Sunday, the club returned to the Emirates Arena to support their U12s in the National SUPERteams competition, where each athlete competed in teams of four, all performing well in the 60m, long jump, shot put and 4x200 relay.

The U12 Girls A team finished 7th, B team 30th, Boys’ A team 10th and B team 20th.

Meanwhile, across in Belfast, U17 star Jessica Inglis had her debut in her first international cross country selection, representing Scotland at the British Cross Challenge.

Jessica had a terrific run over the 4k course, crossing the finish line in a time of 15.41mins, to finish 12th overall and third Scot home.

Her efforts won her the silver team medal in the Home Countries International and a team bronze in the Celtic Nations International, leaving coaches Karen Gillon
