Latest update emerges on Carlos Sainz's contract talks with Ferrari

Carlos Sainz could sign his new contract with Ferrari as early as before this weekend’s race at Imola, it is being reported by Spanish outlet AS.

It has been reported for a fair few months now that Sainz and Ferrari have been in talks over a new deal, and it’s often seemed as though things were progressing nicely ahead of an agreement.

Indeed, at the start of this season it sounded as though it was just going to be a matter of time before the Spaniard inked his new deal but, of course, that is yet to happen as we head towards round four of the championship this weekend.

Saying that, though, it is of AS’ opinion that we could see the deal announced this very weekend, or even before it, at Imola, as Ferrari embark on their first home Grand Prix of the campaign.

The Scuderia have had a stellar season so far with two wins from the first three races for Charles Leclerc, and victory in front of the adoring Tifosi would be another sign that Ferrari are the team to beat in both championships this season.

Sainz, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back after spinning out of the Australian Grand Prix last time out, and he certainly needs to with the gap that Leclerc has opened up to him, and everyone else for that matter, in the Drivers’ championship.

Perhaps this news of a new deal will inspire Sainz to his best performance of the season this weekend, then, but we’re obviously still waiting to see whether he will indeed pen a new contract in the coming days as has been suggested.

One thing is certain, though, and that’s that it would make sense to keep Sainz in the garage for a little while yet as, despite a start that he would have wanted more from this season, he is a top-class Formula 1 driver.
