Daniel Ricciardo gives brilliant response after being complimented for Carlos Sainz apology
Daniel Ricciardo has joked that he “hated every second” of his apology to Carlos Sainz after last weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Speaking on Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show ahead of the inaugural Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, the Australian discussed the incident which saw Carlos Sainz spin out at Imola.
“Again, I think probably… with experience and just being in [Formula 1] for so long I know I have… the maturity now to know how much we all put into it,” Ricciardo said.
“If I hold myself accountable for something, then I feel like I want to just apologise.”
In wet conditions, the pair found themselves driving toe-to-toe coming out of the very first turn of the race.
As both cars entered the Tamburello chicane, the Ferrari got tagged despite appearing to leave enough space for the McLaren on the inside.
The contact forced Sainz onto the gravel and ultimately ended his race.
