Latest Nintendo 'leaks' suggest Switch 2 release is imminent

It's been almost eight years since Nintendo last released a console, with fans patiently awaiting the reveal of a successor to the Switch. As excitement reaches fever pitch, new 'leaks' appear to suggest that an announcement is much closer than we think.

These whispers first arose on the 'Nate the Hate' podcast earlier this week, where the presenter said: "I have been told that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16." This podcast isn't the only inside to be stirring the pot, though - other industry insiders such as Eurogamer and Tom Warren of The Verge have also said that they've heard whispers that Nintendo plans to reveal a new console this week.

That said, Nintendo is yet to announce anything officially and has not yet said anything specific regarding when a supposed Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed, nor when it will be revealed. The only information that we have to go off is that the company said it would reveal the hardware before the end of the fiscal year, and that it would release during the following fiscal year.

That means that we should see the reveal of the hardware before the end of March 2025, with the console releasing no earlier than April 2025. Although spreading rumours indicate it could be this week, there's every chance we could be waiting another few months to see Nintendo's latest console in the flesh.

There's also every possibility that these leaks and rumours are causing turmoil within Nintendo itself. As reported by IGN, ex-PR managers to the company have chimed in to say that they are "100% sure [Nintendo] are really mad, to the most severe level".
