Larkhall YMCA Harriers start 2024 in fine style at major indoor competition

Five Larkhall YMCA Harriers athletes set new personal best times as the club started 2024 in good form at the first indoor competition of the year at Grangemouth.

A small contingent took part in the Indoor Open Graded Match, hosted by Falkirk Victoria Harriers, on Saturday, January 13, with good results recorded by all.

In the 60m sprints, under-13 athletes Erin Ogston and Emma Dooey posted PBs of 9.47 and 10.19, to finish eighth and 21st, respectively.

Sophie Brennan achieved a new PB of 9.51 for 14th place in the under-15 category.

At the same age level, Ross Kinkade won his 60m heat with a strong performance, setting a new PB of 8.44, for second place overall in his age group.

In the senior men’s race, Nathan Dooey also won his heat and set a new PB of 8.42, which was good enough to take second place overall.

Emma Dooey, Erin Ogston and Sophie Brennan also competed in long jump, though there were no more personal bests on the day.

Ogston’s best jump was 3.25m, only 8cm away from her personal best, but earning her fifth in her age group.

Dooey (pictured, right, with Ross Kinkade #77) jumped 2.60m, finishing 14th overall, and Brennan finished sixth in the under-15 age group with a jump of 3.73m.

A club spokesperson said: “It was a strong performance all round and a sign of what is to come for the Harriers, as the indoor season starts to heat up.”
