Lanark Amateur Swimming Club starlet Evi Mackie makes waves at Aberdeen meet with eight-medal haul

Lanark swimming star Evi Mackie took five gold and three silver medals from eight swims at the Scottish Summer Meet in Aberdeen.

Mackie, 13, took part in eight races during the event at Aberdeen Aquatics Centre, as part of a larger Lanark ASC team that headed to the Granite City.

Her five top spots came in the 200m individual medley, 400m IM, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke.

Silver medals were won in the 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.

Mackie broke her own club record in 50m butterfly, and set new personal best ties in all but one of her events.

Three other Lanark swimmers also reached finals.

Craig Shaw, 14, reached all his breaststroke finals, finishing fourth in 200m, fifth in 100m, and sixth in the 50m event.

Abbie Barnstaple, 15, was sixth in both the 50m and 200m butterfly, and eighth in 100m butterfly.

Her 50m time was the second-fastest time ever recorded by a Lanark girl.

Millie McArthur, 16, made four finals.

She was sixth in 50m freestyle, 10th in 100m free, ninth in 50m back, and eighth in 200m back.

Caitlyn Hamilton and Euan McLeod also posted new personal best times at the meet.

Coach Karen Kelly said: “The meet attracted over 80 clubs from throughout the UK.

“Overall, it was a very pleasing set of results from the Lanark swimmers.

“Evi had a very heavy programme of events and rose to the occasion, showing a maturity beyond her years.

“Some of the swimmers had a holiday break before the Aberdeen meet, so can be pleased with their efforts.”
