LaLiga big guns hoping to lure Celtic defender Josip Juranovic to Spain

Atletico Madrid are hoping to sign Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic, according to a respected source.

Juranvovic, 26, arrived last summer from Legia Warsaw for a fee of £2.5m. And he went on to play 35 times for the Hoops last season and has emerged on a number on clubs’ radars.

“Premier League clubs” have been referenced as a landing point for Juranovic, with Fabrizio Romano claiming he “is expected to leave”.

Another club is understood to be Atletico Madrid, according to Sky Sports, via theCelticstar.

Atletico lost Kieran Trippier in January and Sime Vrsaljko is out of contract this month and Danish defender Daniel Wass is 33.

However, their hunt for a right-back has led them to top target Nahuel Molina at Udinese. But if Diego Simeone fails to get a deal done for Molina then he could turn to Juranvovic,

Celtic though remain in a strong position. They have the player under a long contract and do not want to lose him after just 12 months.

The Times report that Celtic will seek at least £15m for the Croatian and will not sell him cheaply.

What is more, the Daily Record claims Juranvovic’s camp have made it clear that the player is happy at Celtic. And there is no desire to quit the Scottish champions.

Celtic can also offer Champions League football next season. And the lure of testing himself in the competition for the first time could see the player stay at Parkhead.

However, if Atletico match Celtic’s valuation a deal could be done, which would see the Hoops make a sizeable profit on the Zagreb-born defender.

Ange Postecoglou would need to find a replacement though and a deal early in the window would give him time to do so.

Scotland star Anthony Ralston is the only senior alternative to Juranovic at right-back.
