Kyle Trout departs Championship promotion chasers Featherstone

Versatile forward Kyle Trout has parted ways with promotion chasing Featherstone, leaving by mutual consent.

Brother of Huddersfield’s Owen, Trout has played just five times for the Rovers this season. Only one of those came in the starting line-up, while game time has also been found out on loan at fellow Championship outfit Dewsbury.

His last appearance for Featherstone came in March, defeating Batley 54-20, while he last featured for Dewsbury in their 66-0 defeat away at Halifax in May. Lee Greenwood left his position as Rams head coach following that loss.

31-year-old Trout will now look for opportunities elsewhere. Rovers released the following brief statement on their website.

“The club can confirm that Kyle Trout has agreed to leave the club with immediate effect.

“Despite Kyle’s best efforts, he has unfortunately been unable to maintain a starting position in what is a very strong squad.

“It was therefore agreed by both parties that Kyle kickstarts his career elsewhere. We wish Kyle all the very best for the future.”

Wigan-born, Trout is mainly recognised as a prop, standing at 6 feet 1 inch. His career has been somewhat varied, frequently playing in the second division either on loan or dual registration.

Permanently, he has been in Super League previously with Wakefield and Hull KR. Elsewhere, his fixed homes have included Dewsbury and Sheffield as well as the latest in Featherstone.

He also spent time playing in France with Limoux Grizzlies, which is where he joined Newcastle from on loan last term.

Trout isn’t the first player to have been let go by Brian McDermott as Featherstone search for a Super League place.
