Kyle Lafferty scoops Championship Player of the Month after Kilmarnock heroics

Kyle Lafferty has been named the cinch Championship Player of the Month for February.

The Kilmarnock striker has bagged four goals to fire the Ayrshiremen to within one point of leaders Arbroath.

Derek McInnes signed the veteran former Rangers frontman in January in a bid to boost their promotion hopes.

And the 34-year-old Northern Ireland international hit doubles against Fife duo Dunfermline and Raith Rovers last month.

Lafferty picks up his award as Kilmarnock prepare for a huge derby against rivals Ayr United where victory would see them hit the second tier summit with Arbroath in action the following day against Inverness.

Killie boss McInnes has been delighted with the signing of Lafferty and said recently: “Laff is somebody who is desperate to do well here.

“Not only his goals, but he leads the line and he’s a bit inspirational for the rest of the team up there.

“The fans love him, you can see his connection with the support and you can see clearly how much he wants to do well here.”
