Kuhnemann removes Kohli, Australia put India under the pump

NEW DELHI :Debutant Matt Kuhnemann dismissed Virat Kohli for his first wicket in test cricket as Australia reduced India to 179-7 at tea on day two of the second test on Saturday.

With India reeling from Nathan Lyon's four-wicket burst in the morning session, Kohli forged a 59-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to stage a mini-recovery.

Australia, who were all out for 263 in their first innings, removed both the set batsmen after lunch to bounce back in the contest.

For India, who trail by 84 runs, Axar Patel was batting on 28 at the tea break, with Ravichandran Ashwin on 11 at the other end.

Having bowled Australia out for 263 on Friday, India looked on the ascendancy but Lyon turned the match on its head by mowing down India's top order in the morning.

Lyon trapped KL Rahul leg-before for 17 to break the 46-run opening stand and, two balls later, had a strong lbw appeal against Cheteshwar Pujara turned down.

Pujara could not make the most of the reprieve though as Lyon, in his next over, struck a double blow to rattle India.

The off-spinner bowled India captain Rohit Sharma (32) and trapped Pujara lbw for a duck in the batsman's 100th test.

Australia lost their final review on Shreyas Iyer but Peter Handscomb took a brilliant catch at forward short leg to cut short the batsman's stay.

Iyer, who made four, flicked Lyon into Handscomb's body and the fielder juggled with the ball before completing the catch.

Todd Murphy removed Jadeja for 26 but Kuhnemann, picked as Australia's third spinner, dealt a bigger blow when he trapped Kohli lbw for 44.

Australia opener David Warner, who was struck in the head while batting on Friday, has been ruled out of the remainder of the match with Matt Renshaw coming in as the concussion substitute.
