Kruger smashes discus world record to end Team SA's efforts on a high in Paris

South Africa's Simone Kruger made history with a F38 world record on the final day of the World Para-Athletics Championship on Monday.

Kruger set a world record in the women's F38 discus and won South Africa's second gold in Paris.

In her sixth attempt, Kruger inserted her name in the record books with an incredible throw of 38.1m.

Canada's Renee Foessel threw a season best of 37.01m to take silver and Na Mi took bronze in 35.77m distance.

South Africa ended their campaign with four medals, which included two golds, one silver and a bronze in Paris.

Apart from Kruger's gold, South Africa's Mpumelelo Mhlongo won the country's first gold medal at the Charlety Stadium.

Mhlongo dominated the men's T44 100m race as he powered to victory in 11.46.

Long-distance runner Louzanne Coetzee clinched silver in the women's T11 1 500m.

Coetzee and her guide, Estean Badenhorst, crossed the finish line second in a time of 4:48.13.

Meanwhile, Kerwin Noemdo secured bronze in the men's F46 shot put with a throw of 15.30m.
