Kris Boyd reveals true source of Rangers fan rage as unflinching pundit paints grim Ibrox scenario

Kris Boyd insists Rangers’ results aren’t enough to hide fan frustration over below par performances and a lack of playing style - with the prospect of the Light Blues kicking off their next league game TWELVE points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.

Philippe Clement’s men booked their place in the Premier Sports Cup final against Celtic with a weekend win over Motherwell at Hampden and then face Olympiacos in the Europa League on Thursday before focus then turns back to the Scottish Premiership and Sunday’s visit of Hearts.

It will be the Ibrox side’s first league game since they slumped to defeat at Pittodrie and the match kicks off at tea time on Sunday and with the Dons in action the day before and Celtic playing at Kilmarnock a couple of hours earlier then the pressure could be on by the time the game gets underway.

Gers are already nine points behind the top two and Boyd told Sky Sports: “Looking at it right now for Rangers, for me, there’s a long, long way to go. There has been that distraction of the League Cup being easy and Olympiacos on Thursday night in Greece but then you’re back at it against Hearts on Sunday where they could be even further behind in the league before they kick off.

“You would expect Rangers to beat Motherwell and get to the League Cup final which is going to be a difficult challenge against Celtic next month. But you listen to a lot of the Rangers fans and usually when you’re not playing well everyone just focuses on getting results and then see where that takes you but I think it’s past that stage now.

“A lot of people are actually acknowledging results are one thing but performances are nowhere near good enough for a Rangers team and that’s where the anger is coming from with people asking
