Kolo Toure reveals Brendan Rodgers advice to former Celtic coach as he stays ready after false start in the dugout

Kolo Toure has revealed the advice he's been getting from mentor Brendan Rodgers since being sacked by Wigan.

The former Celtic defender and coach took his first steps into life off the pitch under Rodgers after retiring from playing following the club's Invincibles season in 2016/17, and Rodgers took Toure with him to Leicester City in February 2019. He was given his first crack at management b Wigan Athletic in 2022, but was sacked just a couple of months into a three-and-a-half year deal with the Latics sitting bottom of the Championship and Toure without a win to his name.

He is still looking to get back in and admits that he still speaks to legendary Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as well as Rodgers, with the pair giving him tips on how to stay ready for the next job that might come up. "Of course Arsene Wenger, still talking to Mr Wenger," he told Sky Sports. "I speak to Brendan Rodgers, of course. They tell me try to keep fit, try to keep your mind busy. Do a lot of gym sport and look after your health first.

"Then keep applying for jobs. That's the advice that they give me, looking after yourself, your faith and keep applying for jobs.

"When I have a task to do or when I work for somebody, I work with all my power and strength to just make sure I can please my chairman and the guy who employs me. Because when somebody employs you, that person is giving you the responsibility to look after his business. And you have to do everything to make sure that you worked.

"I'm like that. When somebody trusts me, I need to back that up. Arsene Wenger trusts me. When I came from Africa, no-one knew about me. The rest is history."
