Klaebo and Sundling defend cross country sprint titles

Jonna Sundling and Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo both successfully defended their sprint cross country titles at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica on Thursday. After striking gold in Oberstdorf two years ago, Sundling led a Swedish clean sweep with the nation occupying the top four spots in the final.

Ad The 28-year-old claimed her third world title ahead of Emma Ribom who took silver, 0.87s behind, while Maja Dahlqvist — who combined with Sundling to win the team sprint gold medal two years ago — finished in third for bronze. Meanwhile, Klaebo claimed a staggering seventh world title with a commanding display in the men's race at the championships in Slovenia. The Norwegian finished 2.22s ahead of compatriot Paal Golberg in the final, with Frenchman Jules Chappaz trailing Golberg by just two-hundredths of a second as he settled for bronze.

Czechia's Michal Novak came home in fourth place, with Calle Halfvarsson in fifth and Lucas Chanavat in sixth. Sundling and Klaebo's gold medals were the first to be handed out at the World Championships, with action continuing until 5th March.
