Kilmarnock hold big Aberdeen trump card and Derek McInnes wants to use it to seal Scottish Cup victory

Derek McInnes knows Kilmarnock have a 'brilliant opportunity' to make the last four of the Scottish Cup.

Killie will head north full of confidence that they have three wins out of three against his former club and have yet to concede a goal against Neil Warnock's struggling Dons. McInnes said: “It is a brilliant opportunity for us. It's the same opportunity for Aberdeen to make a semi-final. We will lean on everything we have got. The ability of the team, spirit of the team and the tenacity of the team.

“We have two defeats in 15 games, both to Rangers and we will need to call on everything to go. Aberdeen have problems but it will still take a big performance and effort to go and win a very important cup tie up there. We have some evidence there, as we have managed to beat them. They’ve still to score against us this season and we will tap into everything. We will need a big performance to get through the tie.”

The Killie faithful will travel to the Granite City in their numbers and McInnes is desperate to give them something to cheer and a Hampden return. “It is cup football and I am glad we are in it to be honest,” McInnes admitted. “There are a lot of Premier League teams who are not in it. “It is good we have that to look forward to.
