Kieran Trippier believes the noise inside Anfield on a European night compared to a Premier League game is 'completely different'. The right-back has visited Anfield a number of times in the league and did for the first time for Atletico Madrid in this seasons group stage.
The Newcastle right-back started the campaign with the Spanish champions and twice lost to Liverpool in the group stage of this seasons Champions League before completing a switch to Newcastle in the January transfer window.
Trippier, who was in the starting XI for Tottenham when Liverpool won the Champions League back in 2019, agreed that there is a difference in atmosphere when playing at Anfield in Europe compared to domestic competition.
“Definitely,” Trippier told BBC 5 Live. “On a European night it was totally different from when I played there in the Premier League.”
“The fans were more up for it. There was maybe more on the game, trying to get into the Champions League quarter-final, it was a fierce atmosphere. That was one of the best nights I’ve had in football.”
