Sky Sports man now claims Newcastle star is being paid less than reported

Journalist Keith Downie has told This Is Futbol that Kieran Trippier’s wage at Newcastle United may not be as high as everyone thinks.

There was a lot of speculation that Trippier left Champions League outfit Atletico Madrid in January to join Newcastle because of the amount of money offered to him, which was rumoured to be around £100,000 per week.

Tripper was in fine form for the Magpies before he picked up a foot injury that has seen him sidelined since 13th February, having gone unbeaten in four Premier League games since signing for the club.

Despite claims that Trippier may have been on significantly high wages, Downie highlighted that the figure he is actually on may not be as high as everyone thinks.

He said: “I think there’s been a lot said in January about the wages that the Newcastle players, particularly Kieran Trippier’s earning, but I don’t think it’s as much as been broadcast in a lot of places.

“I would expect them to try and keep some kind of wage structure, and I would think 125 would eclipse that.”

Kieran Trippier made an instant impact for Newcastle since joining them in January, he has an average player rating of 7.68 over the four Premier League games that he has played, and scored two spectacular free-kicks as he hit the ground running for his new side.

It will be a huge boost for Eddie Howe if he can get Trippier back fit before the end of the season, and you would think he will have a major role to play for the Magpies next year, as we expect to see a new-look Newcastle lineup at the start of the new campaign.
