Key Alexandre Lacazette moment vs Watford may force Mikel Arteta to switch Arsenal's summer plan

Arsenal were the victors in their trip to Watford scoring three goals. However, it was a much tighter affair than it should have been with the Hornets twice getting on the scoresheet to make for a nervous end.

Roy Hodgson’s team got back into the fight after Arsenal decided to bring off Alexandre Lacazette. The Sky Sports commentary team highlighted that there was no doubt about who would be coming on with Eddie Nketiah the only other orthodox striker at the club.

Without the selfless Frenchman, suddenly Arsenal lacked a target in the final third of the field. Nketiah was able to press and cause some problems, even hitting the post with one effort, however, he was not able to provide enough of an outlet as the Gunners tried to escape the offensive pressure from the Watford players.

With both striker’s contracts expiring at the end of the season, Arsenal are sure to push ahead with signing a forward in the summer transfer window.

This win and performance against Watford should be a reference point for how the recruitment team approach the profile of forwards that they seek to pursue.

A player such as Jonathan David, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal would provide plenty of quality regarding finishing and link-up play in the offensive third.

However, in the scenarios where the Gunners are holding on to important points instead of chasing them, David alone would not be enough. Similar to Nketiah, despite being vastly different in terms of quality, his style does not suit that of a team holding onto a lead.

At Lille, David would have Burak Yilmaz as an outlet that would be comfortable performing this role in their title-winning season.
