Kevin Campbell tells Frank Lampard to 'cash in' on Everton star
Everton should resist the temptation to offer Yerry Mina a new contract and should instead look to sell him for as much as possible.
That's the view of Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell, as Frank Lampard looks to shake up his Blues squad for next season after escaping relegation from the Premier League.
Mina, who is entering the final 12 months of his contract, only managed 14 appearances for the Toffees last season, in an injury-ravaged campaign and that is not a record that ex-Goodison favourite Campbell believes his former side can accommodate.
When asked by Goodison News if Mina should be offered a new deal with the Blues, Campbell said: "No. The time for Mina [has come]. He’s a good character and all that but just hasn’t been available enough. That’s been the problem, and now he’s got 12 months left.
“If it was me, what I see now, I’d cash in. You cash in and then you can start getting the money and shaping what the future looks like. Because realistically Yerry Mina isn’t going to be around too much longer at Everton. Frank Lampard’s got to get that money and start shaping the squad to his liking. That’s for sure.”
Lampard has already made a move to strengthen his defence with centre-back James Tarkowski set to move to Goodison Park on a free transfer from relegated Burnley. And with Jonjo Kenny turning down a new deal to join Hertha Berlin as a free agent himself, Everton's back four could have a different look to it by the time their opening game of the season against Chelsea gets underway on August 6.
Mina joined the Blues from Barcelona in August 2018 for a fee of around £27.2milllion and has made 91 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.
