In Conte's sights: Spurs line up £12m giant who's already been dubbed 'a club legend' by 24

Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to sign Clermont Foot striker Mohamed Bayo, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness).

Spurs have already bolstered their attacking ranks with the £60m signing of Everton striker Richarlison, but it seems that Antonio Conte is still keen to add more options who can provide cover and competition.

Guinean marksman Bayo is under contract with Clermont – who finished 17th in Ligue 1 last season as they narrowly avoided relegation – for another two years.

The report from Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) states that Spurs ‘follow’ Bayo, along with fellow Premier League side Everton and continental suitors like Hertha Berlin, Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt and Valencia.

The 24-year-old also has Ligue 1 interest in the shape of Lille, but they are only willing to pay between €10m and €11m (£8.6m-£9.45m) at this point. That falls short of Clermont’s valuation of between €13m (£11.1m) and €14m (£12m).

Bayo’s goal tally last season was impressive, especially considering Clermont’s struggles in the French top flight.

The towering 6 foot 2 striker netted 14 times in 32 appearances, averaging one goal every 173 minutes for Pascal Gastien’s side.

Having helped Les Lanciers secure a historic promotion from Ligue 2 to the top flight in 2021, he has been described in recent months as a ‘club legend at the age of 23’ [he turned 24 a month ago] by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Journalist Zach Lowy has billed him as ‘one of the breakout sensations’ in France, so it’s no wonder that he’s attracting interest from Tottenham, and indeed across the continent.
