Kershaw (pelvis) heads to injured list

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without their ace for the next while.

The team announced that three-time National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw is going on the injured list with SI joint inflammation.

The Dodgers recalled LHP Garrett Cleavinger and placed Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with right SI joint inflammation.

The Dodgers recalled lefty Garrett Cleavinger in a corresponding move.

Located in the pelvis, SI joint is responsible for the transfer of weight from the upper body to the legs.

Kershaw, 34, had started the season well. In five starts this season, the Dallas native was 4-0 with an earned run average of 1.80 and a 0.733 WHIP over 30.0 innings pitched. He struck out 32 batters and only walked three.

The 2014 National League Most Valuable Player, Kershaw is in his 15th big league season and became the franchise's all-time leader in strikeouts last month.

Cleavinger, 28, has previously made two appearances for the Dodgers this season.
