Kenneth Vargas reveals Hearts celebration and nickname origins as 'Huevito' lives up to neck tattoo

Kenneth Vargas has opened up on his Hearts celebration, why he is known as Huevito and the meaning behind his throat tattoo.

The Costa Rican is on a season-long loan from CS Herediano, but there is an option to make that permanent. After six goals in total this season (four in the Premiership, two in the Scottish Cup), Steven Naismith has confirmed that moves are being made to sign Vargas permanently. It seems the players is more than happy to extend his stay in Gorgie, although it's taking him a while to get to grips with the language.

His team-mates have embraced him though, nickname and all, which he explains is a result of his old man's playing legacy back home. He explained to Hearts TV: "This is because my dad (Kenneth Vargas snr) also played football in Costa Rica and they called him Huevo (egg). And when I started to play, my dad was quite well known in the country.

"So as not to call me by the same name, they created it as a diminutive, so they call me Huevito (little egg). Since I started playing at the age of 10 or 11, they called me that, but I don't have any problem with it.

Like many modern day ballers, Vargas is heavily inked. But the tattoo on his throat is the hardest to ignore and he explained what it means. "Well first of all, I feel it is something that represents every Costa Rican. If you go to Costa Rica, what you are going to hear from the people is 'pura vida, pura vida, pura vida.'

"So before I came here, I got the tattoo. I wanted people to know where I came from. And I wanted to treat myself to the most significant phrase of the country.

"What it means in English is good life, I think. It is a phrase that is used daily on Costa Rica and I think it is what most represents us ticos (Costa
