Keith Hill takes swipe at Bolton Wanderers after Scunthorpe United humiliation

Keith Hill has accused Bolton Wanderers of 'throwing him under the bus' and insists he won't let the same happen under Scunthorpe United. The Iron were relegated from League Two this season after a disastrous season that saw them collect just 26 points.

Hill has managed only two wins in 26 matches and the Iron were beaten 7-0 by Bristol Rovers on the final of the season, clinching promotion for Joey Barton's side. With unrest off the field, there are serious concerns about the future of Scunthorpe.

Hill spent just over nine months in charge at Wanderers from September 2019 but left the club after relegation to League Two. His time at Tranmere Rovers ended in bizarre fashion as he was sacked just before their play-off campaign having led the club to the Papa John’s Trophy final earlier in the campaign.

"It's the culmination of a lot of things and I can't put it down to one fact," Hill said when asked who was to blame for Scunthorpe's demise. "If you want me to say that it's Peter Swann's fault or Will Swann's fault, I can categorically tell you 100 per cent it isn't.

"There's a lot of people pushing for the finger to be pointed at the Swanns and it's 100 per cent not [their fault]. They're genuine people who are still funding this club.

"The club need to show bravery. They can throw me under the bus if they want, like most clubs do - I got thrown under the bus [at Tranmere] last season and I got thrown under the bus at Bolton.

"You clean a club up and then you get thrown out. But it needs cleansing. It needs somebody like me to make sure there's a successful future."
