Kate Garraway forced to halt Good Morning Britain to break tragic announcement

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway had to interrupt the show to break a tragic announcement on Wednesday (October 30). Whilst fronting the ITV news programme, Kate reported to viewers that 51 people had died in Valencia, Spain, due to severe flash floods.

Whilst live on air, Kate announced: "We have got some breaking news for you. It has to do with the situation in Spain that Laura was referencing earlier. At least 51 people have been killed now in flash floods in south-eastern parts of Spain, officials there have just confirmed that."

Elaborated on the tragic events, the host explained: "The country has been badly hit by rain and hail storms since Tuesday. Rescue efforts are underway, and the president of the Valencia region said it was impossible to put any exact number on what the final death toll might look like because, at this stage, it is all so uncertain."

Torrential rainfall has led to murky waters which has swept through areas from Malaga to Valencia on the country's east coast, claiming more than 50 lives as reported by regional emergency crews. Harrowing pictures and footage from the affected areas depict the destruction, with high and rapid waters engulfing vehicles, reports the Mirror.

More people are feared missing or dead in the affected areas of the country. Mayor of Utiel, Ricardo Gabaldon, told RTVE several people have been trapped in their homes.

Emergency services, including helicopters, were deployed to rescue individuals from homes and vehicles. A brigade of approximately 1,000 soldiers from Spain's army was also mobilised to assist with the rescue efforts.
