Kasper Schmeichel to Celtic transfer puts keeper on course for record as cynics told 'his career is far from over'

Kasper Schmeichel will smash Scottish records for the least goals conceded when he signs for Celtic, former Hoops star and Danish countryman Thomas Gravesen has predicted.

Despite turning 38 later this year, the Denmark's No.1 is set to move to Parkhead after leaving Anderlecht following a season in Belgian football and former Real Madrid star Gravesen knows exactly what the veteran keeper will experience in Glasgow having spent a season at Celtic in 2006. And he reckons Schmeichel will be such a smash hit in Scottish football, he could even create a new record, with the record for least goals conceded in a season currently held by Rangers, who conceded only 13 goals in the league in their unbeaten season of 2020/21, which included 26 clean sheets.

Gravesen said: "I actually see Kasper beating the record for the fewest goals scored against him - that's how good I still think he is. By joining a club like Celtic, it shows that Kasper knows his career is far from over yet. He will get plenty of opportunities to prove that there. It's the Scottish league, yes, but you play in the Champions League every single year and you have a battle for the title every year too. So for me, it's a no-brainer.

"He is a winner and has a winner's mentality. He was part of a Denmark team under Age Hareide that did not lose any games for 34 matches. And the possibility of a similar streak in Scotland exists too. That's the kind of thing he loves - breaking records and playing at the highest level."

And Gravesen had plenty of praise for Scottish football and the fans.
