Kapp blitz in vain as Dunkley ton steers England to ODI series win

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp scored a fighting half-century, but the Proteas women fell 114 runs short to hand England an ODI series win in the second ODI at Bristol County Ground on Friday.

England sealed the three-match ODI series 2-0, with the final ODI scheduled for Monday (15:00 SA time).

Chasing 338 runs to win, the Proteas got off to a stellar start thanks to an 87-run opening stand between Andrie Steyn and Laura Wolvaardt.

Wolvaardt brought up her 28th ODI half-century before she gave her wicket away and was caught off spinner Charlie Dean for 55 off 48 balls (hitting 10 fours).

The Proteas then suffered a top-order collapse as Dean LBW trapped Steyn for 28 off 44 balls (three fours) and then debutant Issy Wong got her first ODI wicket as Lara Goodall departed for 16.

Dean captured her third wicket as skipper Sune Luus fell for 4 as the Proteas were reeling at 111-4.

England continued to pile on the pressure as Wong got an awkward bounce to dismiss all-rounder Chloe Tryon for 8.

Wong continued her dream ODI debut as all-rounder Nadine de Klerk was caught for a duck.

Wicketkeeper-batter Trisha Chetty scored 17 before falling to spinner Dean, who ended on four for 53 in her 10 overs.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp kept the Proteas fighting as she brought up her 10th ODI half-century off just 46 balls.

Kapp top-scored for South Africa as she made 73 off 59 balls (hitting 10 fours and a six) before she was caught and bowled by Sophie Ecclestone (2/37).

All hope was lost as the Proteas were bundled out for 223 in 41 overs, and South Africa lost their first ODI series since 2019.

Earlier, Sophia Dunkley brought up her maiden ODI century as England posted a competitive 337 after winning the
