Kalvin Phillips spotted arriving for Manchester City medical in club jacket

Kalvin Phillips has been spotted arriving for his medical at Manchester City as he aims to tie up a move to the Premier League champions. The Leeds United midfielder was pictured in a City jacket with only the formalities of his £42 million switch left to complete.

City agreed a fee for Phillips a week ago but the 26-year-old has been enjoying the final days of his summer break which has caused a slight delay in the completion of the deal. Phillips’ season only finished on June 14 as he featured in all four of England’s Nations League matches last month.

Phillips is set to become the most expensive sale in Leeds’ 103-year history, eclipsing Rio Ferdinand’s £41 million move to Manchester United in the 2002/03 season. He leaves with 233 appearances under his belt for his boyhood club, whom he has spent the entirety of his professional career with after progressing through the ranks of the youth teams.

The club had been keen to tie him down to a new deal but the prospect of Champions League football and competing for trophies proved too good to turn down. Pep Guardiola earmarked Phillips as his number one midfield target this summer following the departure of Fernandinho – whose return to Athletico Paranense was confirmed earlier this week after nine years in Manchester.

Phillips is reportedly set to sign a four-year-deal at the Etihad Stadium and will become their third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Stefan Ortega from Arminia Bielefeld.
