Jury reaches verdict in trial of carer accused of raping elderly woman with dementia in her bedroom

A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a carer who was accused of raping an elderly woman with dementia in her bedroom whilst he worked a night shift at the home.

Stanley Ekhator, 36, went on trial before a jury at Minshull Street Crown Court last Monday (June 26) charged with rape and sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder. He denied both charges.

Prosecutors alleged that Mr Ekhator was working a night shift at the home when he raped the woman, who has dementia, in December 2022. It was alleged the incident took place between 3.15 and 3.30am.

Giving evidence last Thursday (June 29) Mr Ekhator told jurors in his defence that the female victim had made multiple advances towards him. He said on previous
