Journalist says Crystal Palace ace "only going to get better" amid internal Selhurst Park talks

Crystal Palace star Michael Olise is ‘only going to get better’ and Eagles chairman Steve Parish is being ‘astute’ by attempting to increase the release clause written into the winger’s Selhurst Park contract, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Olise’s current deal has more than four years to run, but Palace are still keen to reach an agreement over fresh terms ahead of the transfer window opening for business.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Palace have headed to the negotiating table as they fear admirers will be open to meeting Olise’s £35million release clause.

It appears the Eagles have been boosted in their hopes of reaching an agreement as the report suggests the wide-man is keen to remain in south London and a contract, which will be extended by a further 12 months and include an increased buyout clause worth upwards of £50million, is close to being signed.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Lille and Bayern Munich are among the clubs to have been keeping tabs on Olise’s situation, forcing Palace to act.

The interest comes less than 12 months after the 20-year-old became manager Patrick Vieira’s first signing when he completed an £8million switch from Reading.

Olise’s Selhurst Park performances led to him winning his first France under-21s cap in March, so it is clear that he is catching the eye.

O’Rourke believes Olise has a bright future ahead of him and can understand why Palace want to protect their asset.

The journalist feels Parish is being smart by holding talks with Olise and his representatives ahead of the summer transfer window.
