Newcastle: £60m star an 'exciting and ambitious' target at St James' Park

Newcastle United have a really “exciting and ambitious” target in Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The winger is thought to be on the Tyneside club’s shortlist, though O’Rourke thinks a deal this summer could be difficult to do.

90min recently reported that Newcastle are interested in signing Diaby but face a tough task getting him out of the BayArena in the upcoming transfer window.

According to them, Leverkusen are in no rush to sell the 22-year-old, though they could be prepared to do business at around £60m.

As well as the Magpies, Premier League rivals Arsenal and West Ham are also thought to be tracking Diaby.

Leverkusen signed Diaby from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019, with the Frenchman joining on a five-year deal.

O’Rourke has described Diaby as an exciting and ambitious target; however, the journalist thinks Newcastle will find it hard to sign him this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “It’s a really exciting and ambitious transfer target for Newcastle. Diaby’s had another great season for Bayer Leverkusen, also a French international as well. Newcastle are looking to improve the squad, but I think this deal just might be out of reach for them this summer.

“I think it’d take a huge transfer fee for Bayer Leverkusen to sell, and there have been other top clubs linked with Diaby at home and abroad.”

Diaby was one of Leverkusen’s best players, with only Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick recording higher ratings than the France international on WhoScored.

Diaby, whose pace has been compared to lightning by Leverkusen’s club website, scored 13 goals and racked up an impressive 12 assists
