Journalist now hints Celtic eyeing 'striker'; can play alongside Kyogo and Giakoumakis

Ange Postecoglou is expected to be looking to find a new striker for his Celtic squad in this summer’s transfer window.

This is according to the football journalist Pete O’Rourke who has been speaking to This Is Futbol amid the Bhoys’ final few games of the 2021/22 campaign.

Postecoglou’s men look all but set to get their hands on the Scottish crown with a six-point advantage over their city rivals with just two games remaining.

The Bhoys have had a season to remember as they sit top of the table for goals scored (85) with the next best, Rangers, having scored 12 fewer goals.

However, O’Rourke still believes the Hoops will be looking to strengthen this summer with the addition of an extra striker:

“Yeah, I can understand why they might be in the market for a new striker. They obviously had their issues with Kyogo’s long-term injury. That was a big loss for them as well while Giakoumakis started to show his form now but he had a really slow start to his Celtic career due to form and fitness. He missed quite a few games as well.

“So I’m sure Ange Postecoglou would be looking for some striking backup if Celtic do suffer from injury problems again next season.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Perhaps it is a surprise to hear Postecoglou will have his eyes on another goalscorer this summer after what has been a seriously impressive season in front of goal.

However, O’Rourke raises a great point regarding the injuries to Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis already this season with both missing a number of games.

And given the future of the 12-goal Jota is still under scrutiny, we do not think there will be any harm in looking to strengthen their squad depth up top this summer.
