Celtic: Desmond could now make major behind-the-scenes decision at Parkhead

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is ‘fully deserving’ of a new long-term deal after a hugely successful first season at the Parkhead helm, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Postecoglou was handed a 12-month rolling contract when he was appointed as the Bhoys’ manager last summer, but he could be handed fresh terms as a reward for his efforts since heading to Glasgow.

Postecoglou has led Celtic to a season to remember, with them completing the domestic double by getting their hands on the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish League Cup.

Finishing at the top flight’s summit has ensured the Bhoys will return to the Champions League group stage next term and that money-spinning prize has led to the hierarchy turning their attentions towards offering Postecoglou a reward.

According to the Daily Record, the 56-year-old is set to be presented with a bumper new contract in order to extend his stay at Parkhead.

The report suggests the Celtic board are impressed with the progress made and know Postecoglou, who has won 42 of his 60 games in charge, has been central to that.

It has been claimed that the hierarchy want to extend the Greece-born boss’ deal until the summer of 2025.

O’Rourke understands that handing Postecoglou a lengthy contract extension would result in the hierarchy moving away from their previous plans.

However, the journalist feels Celtic owner Dermot Desmond – who has been urged to get a new long-term deal on the table by former Bhoys striker Charlie Nicholas – should take the plunge as a result of the success since the alteration in the dugout.
