Journalist now drops "interesting" 55 y/o manager claim amid Wolves "unhappiness" with Lage

Wolverhampton Wanderers could look to lure Julen Lopetegui to Molineux amid a growing sense of ‘unhappiness’ during the final stages of Bruno Lage’s first campaign at the helm, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Lage was appointed as Wolves’ head coach last summer, replacing the departed Nuno Espirito Santo, but there are question marks as to whether he will still be in the West Midlands by the time next season gets underway.

Although it has been a promising first campaign under Lage’s stewardship, Wolves will go into their clash with title-chasing Liverpool on the final day of the season without a win in their last six fixtures.

That downturn in form has ultimately cost Wolves a European qualification spot, with them falling away from the Premier League’s top seven.

Lage has bagged 17 victories since relocating to the West Midlands, but it seems he has already started to lose members of the dressing room.

That is because, according to Football Insider, Wolves stars are protesting against Lage’s plans to implement a new system.

It is understood that the Portuguese, who previously won two trophies in his homeland with Benfica, is keen to move away from selecting three central defenders and instead deploy a back four.

Taylor has hinted that Wolves could reignite their interest in Lopetegui ahead of the 2022/23 season getting underway.

The journalist feels there is a possibility that a change could be made in the dugout, with Lage being ousted from Molineux.
