Journalist drops shock selection claim tonight on Everton ace who's "not popular with the fans"

There is ‘a case’ for Everton starting striker Salomon Rondon against Tottenham Hotspur this evening, according to Daily Star reporter Paul Brown.

With the availability of first-choice forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin still up in the air, new manager Frank Lampard could be forced to re-think his attacking lineup once again.

Calvert-Lewin missed the recent clashes against Manchester City and Boreham Wood after picking up a groin problem in training, but he could be in contention to make his comeback against Spurs.

In his pre-match press conference, Lampard revealed that he is ‘hopeful’ that the 24-year-old will be available for selection for their trip to the capital.

However, if the England international is not able to feature from the off, then Rondon is likely to make just his ninth Premier League start of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 6 foot 1 ace has only started once in the top-flight in 2022 and has generally struggled to make an impact upon his return to the Premier League last summer, scoring three times in 17 appearances.

Rondon was reunited with former Everton manager Rafa Benitez in the summer, but the Spanish tactician was relieved of his duties in January, and the striker’s opportunities have dried up since.

Nevertheless, Rondon did find the back of the net last time out against National League outfit Boreham Wood, and Brown believes the 85-cap Venezuela international’s style of play could prove to be beneficial.
