Journalist claims West Brom could take big 'gamble' amid interesting rumour

Pete O’Rourke has suggested that if West Bromwich Albion were to bring Mbaye Diagne back to The Hawthorns, it may be a risk due to fitness worries.

Diagne was released from Turkish club Galatasaray last month after he picked up a femoral fracture injury which will see him sidelined until April, meaning he is now a free agent.

The forward from Senegal has scored an impressive 101 goals in 209 games in his career, according to Transfermarkt, and the Daily Express has reported he could be an option for West Brom, where he spent the remainder of last season on loan.

O’Rourke gave his views whilst talking to GiveMeSport and identified that it would be a “gamble” for Steve Bruce to bring back the 30-year-old forward.

He said: “It would be a gamble for Steve Bruce if they were to return for him because he’s not fully match-fit, and Steve Bruce needs somebody to hit the ground running straight away right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Mbaye Diagne…

Bruce’s side haven’t won in seven league games and are in desperate need of goals, as they have scored just once during this poor run of form.

Andy Carroll has been leading the line for West Brom in recent times, but he has failed to hit the ground running, going without a goal for the Baggies in six games.

Although Diagne is only set to be back to full fitness in April, he could be one of the only options left that Bruce has in terms of sourcing goals. Callum Robinson is another forward for the Baggies who has struggled to hit any type of goalscoring form this season, having notched just five times in 32 league appearances, so Bruce may well have to turn to Diagne once he’s back fit.
