Joshua Zirkzee sends five-word transfer message as Manchester United 'close in' on first signing

Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee has admitted that he is currently unsure about his future amid Manchester United's interest in his signature.

Zirkzee made the admission after stepping off the bench in the latter stages of the Netherlands' European Championship quarter-final win over Turkey in Berlin on Saturday evening. He replaced Xavi Simons to help Ronald Koeman's side record a 2-1 win and book a semi-final date with England on Wednesday night.

A late addition to the squad ahead of the tournament, Zirkzee's three-minute cameo marked his senior Netherlands debut. He had been an unused substitute in each of their opening four matches in Germany.

Despite that, the 23-year-old has been a hot topic of conversation over the last few weeks. United want to add a striker to their ranks in this summer's window and he is high on their wish list.

According to a report by The Athletic, United are currently 'working to finalise a deal' for him. It is claimed that talks are ongoing about the price United will pay, with the club 'exploring' whether to activate his €40million (£33.8m at current exchange rate) release clause or agree on a different fee. The report concludes that a deal is 'close to being secured'.

Nevertheless, Zirkzee has remained relatively coy on his future, admitting he "doesn't know" if he will still be playing in Italy this forthcoming season. He has also been heavily linked with AC Milan.

He told reporters: "I don't know, let's see."

Asked if there is a 50 per cent chance he will stay at the club, he added: "Let's see."
