Joshua Kimmich makes Robert Lewandowski contract admission amid Manchester United speculation

Joshua Kimmich has played down the uncertainty surrounding Robert Lewandowski's future at Bayern Munich, following rumours the frontman could be a target for Manchester United.

The Polish talisman has been in blistering form for the Bundesliga champions this season and his hat-trick in the Champions League against RB Salzburg saw him surpass the 40-goal mark for the seventh consecutive season. In recent weeks, there have been murmurs surrounding his future in Bavaria, with United rumoured to be interested in a deal.

United are set for a busy summer with the impending arrival of their next manager. They could also be in for a hectic transfer window as they look to bolster their squad, though Kimmich has moved to downplay talks of Lewandowski making a move to Old Trafford.

"I don't know what the [contract] talks are like or if there are any at all," Kimmich said. "Robert is fully involved. I don't feel like his head is anywhere else."

Come the summer, Lewandowski's deal at the Allianz Arena will have just 12 months left to run, and so speculation is likely to swirl until fresh terms are penned.

United were forced to field a starting XI without a recognised striker in their derby defeat to Manchester City recently. Ralf Rangnick addressed their concerns up front last month, saying: "Edison's [Cavani's] contract is running out in the summer, and the club needs the best possible centre forward.

"This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that."
