Josh Taylor vows to 'put a beatdown' on Jack Catterall in bitter grudge match

Josh Taylor says he is aiming to end his bitter feud with Jack Catterall by giving him a "beatdown" in their highly anticipated rematch next month.

The pair will meet in the ring in Manchester on May 25 for the first time in over two years, with Taylor claiming a controversial points victory at the Hydro in Glasgow in February 2022. The rematch was originally due to take place on April 27, only for former undisputed super-lightweight champion Taylor to suffer an eye injury that required the bout to be postponed.

The Scottish boxing star has been involved in a harsh war of words with Englishman Catterall ever since their first showdown and insists he is fully focused on putting their rivalry to bed with an emphatic performance in five weeks time. Speaking to iFL TV, Taylor, 33, said: "I can't wait. I am emotionally detached but I am just excited for the fight.

"I am really looking forward to putting a real beatdown on him. I can't wait to get my hands on him and if he says he is coming to have a fight rather than trying to steal the fight, then it is going to be a good night of boxing."

The Edinburgh boxer lost his WBO super-lightweight crown to Teofimo Lopez in his most recent bout back in June 2023, suffering a lopsided points division defeat to the American star. Having struggled to make the 140 pound weight in the lead up to that contest in Las Vegas, Taylor confirmed his ambition to move up to welterweight to fight unified champion Terence Crawford.
