Jose Mourinho has already given Manchester United a Sergio Reguilon transfer seal of approval

Manchester United are exploring a potential move for Sergio Reguilon in the final days of the window and the left-back has already received Jose Mourinho's backing.

United are in the midst of an injury crisis at left-back, following news of muscle issue picked up by Luke Shaw earlier in the week. An announcement initially confirmed he would be out for 'a number of weeks' but there are fears that prognosis could extend to two months.

Tyrell Malacia would be the natural cover, however the young Dutchman is yet to feature this season after arriving back for pre-season with an unspecified injury. That leaves Erik ten Hag to decide between Diogo Dalot - a right-back by trade - or Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

As such, United have been working on potential short-term replacements and Reguilon is on a list of several options. The 26-year-old has not played for Tottenham since April 2022, spending last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Reguilon initially made his name in Spain with Atleti's rivals, Real Madrid. The young full-back played 22 times for Los Blancos during the 2018/2019 campaign, including twice against Barcelona

Madrid lost both of those matches but he caught the eye of Mourinho, who was working as a pundit between jobs at United and Tottenham.

“I say, from my perspective too, one of the players that could show that Real Madrid's traditional desire to compete against Barcelona was a kid like Reguilon, who had a very good approach in both matches," said Mourinho.

Such was the impression Reguilon left on the Portuguese that in the summer of 2020, he sanctioned a £32million deal for the Spaniard
