Jose Cifuentes to Rangers contract 'agreed' as Ibrox transfer details emerge but final obstacle remains

Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes looks set for a major bump in salary as he edges closer to a move to Rangers.

Record Sport reported earlier this week that the Ibrox side were set to hold further talks with the Ecuador star and Stefan Jarrin to negotiate a contract for the star, with his deal in Major League Soccer set to expire at the end of the year. Now reports emerging from Cifuentes' homeland suggest that the LA FC star has agreed terms over a contract that will take him to the Scottish Premiership.

Bola report that a $700,000-per-year (£567,000) deal has been settled on by Rangers and the 24-year-old, and marks a "considerable increase" on the salary he was receiving in America - breaking down at £10,000-per-week. In the latest announcement of MLS salaries it was stated that Cifuentes rakes in around $511,750 per year (£410,000) which equates to just over £7,900-a-week.

The report suggests that the offer priced out Turkish side Fenerbahce who were also interested in the playmaker this summer. It is noted a deal makes him "one of highest paid Ecuadorian footballers".

However, Rangers still have to iron out the final details of a summer transfer. LA FC do not want the player to leave for nothing when his contract expires.

They are open to a deal but a fee has yet to be agreed with the American outfit. Michael Beale has already started his overhaul at Ibrox, with Kieran Dowell the first summer recruit to arrive from Norwich City.

The draw with Hearts marked a major changing of the guard at Ibrox. Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Filip Helander and Scott Arfield all waved goodbye to the home crowd.
