Sam Lammers on Rangers transfer brink as £3.5m deal agreed with Atalanta

Rangers have agreed a £3.5 million deal with Atalanta that should make Sam Lammers their latest summer signing.

The Light Blues have agreed a fee with the Italian side for their out-of-favour striker. The 26-year-old has spent recent seasons out at Sampdoria, Empoli and Eintracht Frankfurt and has been deemed surplus to requirements by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

That opened the door for Rangers to make their move. The deal should be signed and sealed subject to a medical and Lammers’ return from holiday. It sees Atalanta take a huge hit on the £9 million they paid PSV Eindhoven to get him back in 2020. Michael Beale believes he can respire Lammers’ career and is also ready to play him one back in the No. 10 role.

Rangers have already signed deals for Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell. The Light Blues are still in talks to sign Cyriel Dessers from fellow Italian side Cremonese.

They believe they are close to striking a deal at around the £5 million mark that will see Rangers bring in a second striker. Beale also remains in talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal for defender Jonathan Panzo and Rangers are also close to finalising a deal to sign Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes from Los Angeles FC. There are a number of players who could be leaving Ibrox with Finnish international Glen Kamara and Scott Wright amongst the players attracting interest.
